UK Visitors to Ibiza 2009

From January to September 2009 547,086 passengers visited Ibiza from the UK.

89,128 flew from London Gatwick with the second highest passenger traffic coming from Manchester with 86,339 travelling through the airport.

The third most popular departure airport was London Stansted which is home to an all year round Ryanair flight which has helped the airport see 77,125 departures travel through the airport for Ibiza.

The UK's regional airports also saw a wide spread of passengers departing from Ibiza with a strong presence from the Midlands airports with Birmingham International, East Midlands and Luton accounting for 109,630 passengers. Scotland's airports carried 35,179pasengers.

These figures represent a decrease of -1.4% on the same period last year, a slight decrease which shows that Ibiza is maintaining its market share and has not been hit to the same extent that mainland Spain and other islands have in the last year. Tenerife for instance is currently down 15.9% and Valencia is down 17.2% year on year.

The month by month breakdown betrays Ibiza's current seasonality with over 80% travelling in a four month period from June to September inclusive. Building on 2009's strategic focus the tourist board plans to continue working to extend the season. Increasingly hotels are opening all year round and with the continuation of the Ryanair flight throughout the winter season the destination is now firmly positioning itself as a year round destination.
