Ibiza is promoting itself at the Madrid International Tourism Fair, FITUR 2010, as the preferred destination for water sports fans. In fact, two of the most important events on the calendar are being held on the island: The 23rd edition of the Salt Route, the biggest open water regatta in the Mediterranean, and the "Kimros" International Sea Kayaking Regatta.

The 2010 Salt Route: Takes place from 1 to 4 April 2010, over the Easter Week holiday period, with over 2,600 crew members competing. The Northern version sets sail on Thursday 1 April at 12:00 noon from the Port Ginesta Yacht Club in Barcelona, over a course measuring 140 miles straight to the Sant Antoni Yacht Club. The Eastern version sets sail at 16:00 on the same day from the Yacht Club in Denia and covers a 120 mile route that involves passing Formentera to port and sailing up the North coast of Ibiza to Sant Antoni. This latter route may be altered due to prevailing weather conditions.

The island of Ibiza, with its yacht clubs and marine resorts, offers many opportunities for enjoying the sea, with sailing, scuba diving, snorkelling, windsurfing, kitesurfing, water skiing and other disciplines. The island is also home to numerous companies providing all kinds of services, from boat hire to training courses with fully qualified instructors.
