May will soon be here and Ibiza will be ready. The Johannesburg Times Deals with Travel routes and costs to Ibiza.
Q: We are travelling on a tight budget and would like to go from Barcelona to Ibiza in early July. What would a flight cost? Is there a ferry service that travels overnight (saving the cost of a hotel room)? If so, please advise us on schedules, prices and how to book. - Sam Ellison
A: If you check www.skyscanner.net, you can find details of low-cost carriers on this route. They include Iberia, Spanair and Vueling. The cheapest ticket I could find for early July was à60 (about R590) per person. The flight takes 55 minutes. The two main ferry operators from Barcelona to Ibiza are Balearia Ferries and Trasmediterranea. The journey takes around eight hours. The most cost-effective journey for you would be the overnight crossing, which leaves at 11pm and arrives in Ibiza at 7am.
I did a test booking for a one-way journey for two passengers in economy seats in early July with Trasmediterranea. The fare for a Friday departure was à67 per person, while a Sunday night fare was à47 per person. You can get further details on www.directferries.com or www.aferry.com.
